Metla delivers roundwood price information from the Baltic Sea countries
Representative series on roundwood prices in the Baltic Sea Region countries Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden, are available online from the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla). The series are mostly complied on a monthly basis and the data originates from official forest statistics. A link to the “Roundwood Prices in the Baltic Sea Region” service by Metla has now been added to NB Forest portal pages.
Since the beginning of the 2000’s, Metla has provided information on the development of roundwood prices in the Baltic Sea Region, accessible free of charge on its website. The countries delivering information to the present database are Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. Only roadside prices are reported, as they are available in all participating countries. Price data, starting mainly from 1996, is delivered on a monthly basis, if available. In addition to prices, the corresponding purchased volumes are also reported. Country-specific product descriptions provide users with necessary background information to facilitate proper interpretation of price information.
It’s also to note that direct price comparisons between countries should be treated with caution. The statistics reflect more on the price developments within the countries than the price differences between the countries.
The price project was initiated by the Baltic/Nordic Forest Statistics Group (BNFSG), which strives for increased co-operation in all areas of forest statistics. As a practical measure of co-operation, the price database was set up to offer information to, e.g. the forest industries, organisations of forest owners, forest researchers, the media etc.
